Words

Words are very important and we have to be mindful about how we let them out of our mouths.  So many times I have uttered words and thought to myself, “where did that come from?” We can’t chew back our words or take them back once they are out. The words we speak are like seeds that are sown into the recipient. As we know from the beginning, God spoke creation into being, so our words can actually create life around us.

When you speak healing words, you offer others fruit from the tree of life. But unhealthy, negative words do nothing but crush their hopes.
Proverbs 15:4 (TPT)

We can choose to speak blessings to inspire and motivate ourselves and others, or we can speak curses to put ourselves and others down. The choice is really ours and I personally find myself making a conscious effort to speak life instead of negativity. I am learning that before I utter words based on my current feelings, I need to pause and access the weight and impact of my words.

Do not let unwholesome [foul, profane, worthless, vulgar] words ever come out of your mouth, but only such speech as is good for building up others, according to the need and the occasion, so that it will be a blessing to those who hear [you speak].
Ephesians 4:29 (AMP)

We are encouraged to choose to speak life and  blessings over people. So you might ask, how do I speak words of life? We can do this by identifying the root of our words. From the bank of our heart evolves the words we speak. This means that, whatever I fill my heart with, will determine what comes out of my mouth.

A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.
Luke 6:45 (NIV)

What words are you speaking to yourself? How do you qualify the utterances you allow in your heart? We should be filled with the Word of God and His overflowing promises so that when we open our mouths, it will be full of Power, which is life to the living soul. Our environment should not determine our words but rather our inner core should influence our environment. Life with my family has taught me that, if my heart posture is not right with God, I am guaranteed that I will not be speaking life but I would rather let my environment dictate my words.

10 When He had called the multitude to Himself, He said to them, “Hear and understand: 11 Not what goes into the mouth defiles a man; but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man.”
Matthew 15:10-11 (NKJV)

The ruler of this world, the devil always has something to say, especially in this technological age where information is so readily available to us. But you have the power to shut the devil up and not entertain his lies. How well are you shutting the devil up and speaking life over his lies?

You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
John 8:44 (NIV)

The devil is up to no good. He never has any good thing to say. I cannot count the number of times I have had to shout out loud at the devil for trying to put me down. If you are hearing voices of negativity, inadequacy, pessimism and all their relatives then you can be sure the culprit is the devil and you need to call him out and shut him down in the Name of Jesus.

We have a good good Father, who wants nothing more than our best. How well are you engaging in conversations with God? God is always looking forward to having a chat with us. He says in His word that we should come and reason together.

“Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the Lord, “Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool.
Isaiah 1:18 (NKJV)

He will never put you down nor speak evil over you. You are His beloved creation and you very important and special to Him.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

We have all been found guilty of speaking negative words over ourselves and others at one point in time. God offers us the chance to turn away from this negative way of speaking by admitting our mistakes to Him; He promises to forgive us and cleanse us.

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9 (NKJV)

Now then, how should we be speaking to others? What words should we be speaking to ourselves? I guess you know the answer to these now.

Allow God in your heart and let Him change your heart and your words will change.

May you be filled with the Fullness of God and the Power of His Love!
